Licensing program basicsHow will Audistry features be licensed?All features in Audistry’s first product suite are licensed and available for sale as a single package. The features are not licensed separately. What are the target product designs for Audistry? Audistry technology is targeted at product offerings with stereo output, such as televisions, digital media players, boomboxes, home stereos, portable DVD players, mobile phones, PCs and gaming consoles. Will Audistry technology support multichannel systems? Audistry technology is targeted at products with stereo output. Some types of virtual multichannel processing is available when used with Dolby® ProLogic® II and Dolby® Virtual Speaker (e.g. in a premium television) How does Audistry licensing work? For DSP implementation partners: To implement Audistry technology on a DSP platform, DSP implementation partners sign an Audistry Implementation License Agreement (AILA) with us. Under this agreement you receive the Audistry Implementation Kit, and can offer implementations of Audistry technology to your customers, subject to our testing and approval. There is an application fee for the AILA, to cover legal and administrative costs. There are no other licensing fees. For CE manufacturers To use Audistry technology, manufacturers sign an Audistry System License Agreement (ASLA) with us. Under this agreement you can choose any DSP implementation from a list published by us, and produce prototype and finished products featuring these implementations. There is an application fee for the ASLA to cover legal and administrative costs. This is a royalty bearing contract. Who is the Licensor for Audistry Technology? Dolby Laboratories, Inc. is the licensor for Audistry technology. How will products featuring Audistry technology be certified? We intend to deliver world-class remote electronic approval processes to minimize your overhead, cost and delays, so you can bring your products to market faster. We do not require you to submit products to us for testing; instead, we provide automated testing software as a way for your engineers to check performance and compliance in their labs. Once complete, these testing reports are submitted electronically to us for final approval. How do I obtain artwork for the Audistry brand identity? Digital artwork for the Audistry brand identity is obtainable from the Dolby Laboratories Inc, Marketing . What approval processes must I observe when planning to use the Audistry brand on products? The use of the Audistry brand identity is governed by our license agreements and should be in line with the Brand Implementation Specifications. You should provide to the Dolby Laboratories, Marketing, digital artwork of a prototype or finished product, where the Audistry brand identity is being used. Approval for logo usage will be provided electronically. Which DSP implementations for Audistry technology are available now? As of Q1 2005 we have tested and approved the following DSP implementations for Audistry technology:
When will other implementations be available? Implementation kits for Audistry technology are now generally available to all DSP partner companies. In coming months, we will be distributing information to key DSP companies in your market, so please contact your DSP partner to enquire about their Audistry implementation plans. Will source code be made available? In certain cases, we will enter into a source code arrangement with a DSP partner. Finished implementations are available to OEMs as binary object implementations or embedded in finished DSP components. What is the pricing structure for Audistry? Audistry has a simple pricing structure that deals directly with CE manufacturers. We want to make it easier, more predictable and more profitable for you to use Audistry in a wide range of products. Pricing information will be made available on request. Will Audistry technology work with Dolby technologies? Yes. Audistry technology has been designed to work with Dolby technologies such as Dolby® Pro Logic® II and Dolby® Virtual Speaker, and in products that have stereo Dolby Digital® output such as portable DVD players. Audistry will be marketed with several direct demand generation activities including channel training, internet marketing and retail merchandising.
